Kirkham Grammar U12 versus Monmouth School, Rugby Report, Saturday 13 February 2016
Team: U12
Location: Home
Score: Kirkham  21  Monmouth School  14
Kirkham played host to Monmouth School who were touring the Fylde Coast for the 16th Year. The game began with Kirkham in control as Archie Rowlings and front row partner Jamie Livermore carried the ball up well allowing some quick ball for scrum half Ethan Crompton. Kirkham moved the ball well trying to get their elusive wings into the game which worked as Mathauda released Tobias Parkinson on the right who sped 50 metres along the touch line to score a fine try. After the opening score Monmouth immediately came back into the game as their two centres started to influence both the attack and defence with turnover ball and some mazy running. Monmouth scored two quick tries with one slicing run carving open the Kirkham defence to draw Monmouth 14-7 clear at half time.
The second half was a real war of attrition with neither side willing to buckle, Parkinson scored another try, with Mc Namee levelling the scores. A draw would have been about the right result until a pre-planned move just inside their own half saw Kirkham snatch the spoils. From a scrum Parkinson chose a really incisive running line to break through and embark on a weaving run which saw him break three tackles and just when he looked likely to go all the way was hauled down with a desperate tackle, however Crompton was on hand to take a pass to run in from 10 metres to score under the posts, Mc Namee again converting. Kirkham then had a nervy two minutes to hang on as Monmouth poured forward but Kirkham scrambled very well in defence to run out winners 21-14 in what was a fantastic spectacle.
