Fylde RFC media release, Wednesday, 3rd August 2016, 15.00

Fylde RFC have made another huge signing this summer – not a player this time but a three year deal with one of the leading World sports brands, Under Armour. This development will see a total refit of the Club Shop and a stock of exciting new products including performance apparel and accessories available to purchase for the new season.

UA has a wealth of experience in supplying professional rugby clubs in the UK such as Wasps, Worcester Warriors and the Welsh Rugby Union, as well as Premiership football clubs Tottenham,  Aston Villa and Southampton.

The distinctive UA trademark has been seen prominently recently on Andy Murray's shirt at Wimbledon and the company also supplies some of the largest institutions in the UK including England Squash, England Basketball and many universities.

The Company's mission is to make all athletes better through passion, design and the relentless pursuit of innovation. UA now ranks 2nd to Nike in the global sports apparel market.

One aspect of the Under Armour ethos is the encouragement of young sportsmen and women to fulfil their potential and reach the top of their respective sports. Fylde's production line of fine young players coming through their development system, most recently England internationals Kieran Brookes and Josh Beaumont, fits in perfectly with UA's goals.

Fylde Chairman Andy Hiles said: "We're very excited to link up with Under Armour and provide our senior and mini-junior players, and supporters, with high quality products from this leading international company. We share the same ethos of encouraging sporting participation and achieving personal and team goals. We are looking forward to a long and mutually productive relationship with UA.”

UA's Freeman Payne said: “Under Armour are delighted to be partnering with a Club with such history and national recognition as Fylde. Our challenge is to live up to the expectations of the Players who will be wearing the Under Armour brand, which in turn will create a unique and desired look for them. We are hugely excited to see the partnership develop and hope our presence will bring yet more excitement to pull on that Fylde Shirt than it already does.”

Background

Fylde RFC is currently the top ranked Lancashire rugby union club and plays in the English National One division. It will celebrate its centenary in 2019 and still retains its status as a 'true rugby club' embracing both elite and community roles. It is a strong national RU brand name, partly through the Club's on-field achievements over 97 years, partly through its famous former international players such as Bill Beaumont (now Chairman of World Rugby), Malcolm Phillips (formerly RFU President and IRB member) and a new generation of talent including Kieran Brookes and Josh Beaumont. It runs four senior teams and ten Mini-Junior teams, making up a strength of well over 400 players. Its well equipped Woodlands Memorial Ground has staged many international fixtures at U'18s, U'19s, England Trials and England Counties levels as well as being a regular host of Lancashire County fixtures.

Under Armour: UA was founded in Baltimore in 1996 by former top American footballer Kevin Plank who had one simple idea of making a T-shirt that would wick the moisture away from his body when he trained. He sold directly to the university teams on campus and built a business model of service and quality based on supplying superior technical apparel. He has a simple principle … to empower athletes everywhere.
