Powerful lock forward Olli Parkinson has signed up for his fourth season at the Woodlands. Olli joined the Club in the summer of 2017 from Macclesfield RUFC where he spent the 2016-17 season. He’s a product of the Sedgley Park development system, went on to play for the North U’18s squad and made his debut in Sedgley’s National One XV in the 2011-12 season at the tender age of 17. He attended Myerscough College before moving on to Bath University where he featured in their 1st team, played for Bath Rugby’s 2nd team and earned representative honours for British Colleges. He has also played for Sale Jets and for their U’20s squad.
The 25 year old (6’4”, 115kgs) returned to the North West to re-join Sedgley Park and became a fixture in the 2nd row in 2014-15. He had a brief spell at Championship club Rotherham Titans before joining Macclesfield. Olli’s Fylde National One career was delayed due to an ankle injury picked up pre-season, ironically at Sedgley Park in August 2017. Other injuries in 2018-19 and last season have somewhat restricted his availability but, nevertheless, he’s been a regular 1st team choice, making 63 appearances for Fylde, and running up a total of 115 National League games in all.
Olli is a highly mobile lock forward, with pace and athleticism. He’s a major line-out presence and carries a lot of ball in loose play.
Warren Spragg said: “Oli is a really important player for us who brings a lot of physicality and fantastic work rate to the team, alongside his top quality aerial work. I hope he can get a good run without injury next season so we can see him at his best.”
Olli Parkinson said: “I’m very happy to have signed for another season at Fylde. I had a bit of a frustrating year with injuries last season and hopefully the extra rest will have done me good.
“A few lads have left but again we have managed to keep the majority of our squad which I think will help us push on and get that top spot.”
