The Club is very sad to report the death of former member, 1st team player, team manager and referee, George Norman. He passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 25th September with his family around him.

George, who worked for the TSB, played at fullback and wing for the Fylde 1st XV in the 1960s and gained Lancashire County honours in the 1962-3 season. When he retired from playing, he carried on in an active role in the Club.

He became one of the first members of the Manchester Referees Society to come from Fylde.

George finally hung up his boots in the early 1980s and became a major contributor to team management at the Club. He reformed the Fylde Colts team, encouraging many young players to progress their rugby careers and play for the Club’s senior teams. A host of players benefitted and a number went on to honours in the game.

He then moved on to manage the Club’s 2nd team before finally retiring. To the end he remained a keen supporter despite ill health.

Everyone at the Club sends their sincere commiserations to his widow Norma, his children, grandchildren, other members of the family and his friends.
