Fylde have made the decision to pull out of the two games organised against Blackburn RUFC scheduled for Saturday 22nd May (at Blackburn) and 29th May (at the Woodlands).
Club Chairman Michael Brennand said: “We are incredibly disappointed that these games won’t be taking place. It’s taken a lot of organisation to set up these end of season fixtures and our players and supporters were really looking forward to meeting our old friends at Blackburn RUFC after the absence of rugby for 14 months. However, after a lot of heart searching, we feel that it would not be in the interests of both local communities in the light of the Covid-19 situation in parts of Lancashire to be encouraging the interaction of lots of people to and fro. The last thing we want is to threaten the health of anyone over such friendly matches.
“I’ve talked to the Chairman of Blackburn RUFC and he understands the situation very well. Ordinarily, we would have completed our season by now and be looking forward to the 2021-22 season which begins in September. That now becomes the focus of our planning.”
It was also planned to play 3rd/4th team fixtures between the Clubs on these dates. These are also cancelled.
