Damon Hall joins the 2020-21 squad

Fylde is delighted to welcome versatile back Damon Hall to the 1st XV squad being prepared for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

Damon, 26, is a former Lancaster Royal Grammar School student who came up through Vale of Lune’s Mini-Juniors and Lancashire U’14s to U’18s age group squads. He joined Ulster University in 2012 to undertake a BSc in Sports Studies. When in Northern Ireland he made a name for himself as a heavy scorer for Ireland Division 2A club Queens University Belfast. On completing his degree in 2016 he returned to England and joined LRGS as a Sports Graduate working alongside then Fylde skipper and the School’s Director of Rugby, Evan Stewart. Evan introduced Damon to Fylde and he played a few games for the Hawks in the autumn of 2016 before returning to Powderhouse Lane.

Evan joined Vale of Lune as Head Coach for the 2017-18 and assembled a powerful squad. Damon had a spectacular promotion season with the Club, breaking records on the wing or at fullback with an amazing haul of 444 points including 43 tries overtaking Nick Royle’s previous club record in the process. In 2018 he was appointed to an established PE Teacher post at LRGS. Of course, Fylde coach and hooker Alex Loney was appointed to replace Evan Stewart when he moved to the South Coast so him and Damon are now colleagues.

Injuries and other commitments restricted his availability for Vale in 2018-19 and with major squad difficulties the club suffered relegation. Despite this, Damon was selected for the Lancashire Senior Squad in the County Championship in May 2019. He impressed County Head Coach Mark Nelson sufficiently for him to persuade Damon to join Rossendale for the 2019-20 campaign.

Damon Hall has pace, good technical skills and a strong creative streak. His versatility makes him an excellent squad resource.

Warren Spragg said: “Damon will add more quality to our high scoring outside backs and I’m looking forward to working with him. He has serious speed, a lot of confidence in one on one situations and knows his way to the tryline. I am sure he will want to compete with Tom Carleton, Grimesy and Connor at the top of the try scoring charts next season!”

Damon Hall said: “I’m really excited to sign for Fylde for the coming season. It was an easy decision considering the club has such a young and talented group of players who all seem extremely ambitious to push on to the next level. Although it’s difficult without a set start to the season at the minute, I’m really keen to get stuck in and hopefully add something to the team in the push back up to National One.”
