New officers for Fylde RFC

At Fylde RFC’s 2020 Annual General Meeting at the Woodlands on Wednesday evening (30th Sept), three new key officers were elected by the suitably COVID-19 distanced and masked Membership.

Michael Brennand is the new Chairman, a role he last undertook between 2006 and 2012, taking over from Dave Young. The Secretary is Mike Hornby and Treasurer Andy Dowds who respectively succeed David Wiseman and Sandi Haslam. The Club is fortunate to call on this experienced pair as they have also served in the same roles in the recent past. Brennand himself is closely involved in National League rugby as he serves on the Executive of the National Clubs Association which runs levels 3 and 4 of the RFU’s league structure.

A newcomer elected to the General Committee is businessman Mike Davies who will play an important part in business planning in these difficult financial circumstances for National League clubs. With all fixtures suspended at least until early in 2021, sources of revenue are under great pressure. Outgoing Chairman Young emphasised the importance of retaining as many Members as possible despite no competitive rugby being played. “Whilst some members haven’t renewed so far, the majority have and we’re extremely grateful for that” he said.

New Chairman Brennand addressed the Meeting in a similar vein. But first of all he thanked the retiring officers who had invested so much time guiding the Club in such a difficult and unprecedented period and continue to support Fylde RFC.

Following the AGM he said: “The priorities for the Club over the next few months are to create a business model that allows for no first team rugby being played until the New Year. It costs the Club over £1000 per week just to open the doors. The continuing support of members and sponsors is now more crucial than ever.”
