AKS v Ripley St Thomas, 29th September

In their first run out of the season AKS U16 took a little time to gel which Ripley capitalised on scoring two early tries. As Captain James rallied the troops, AKS worked their way back in to the game with quick thinking from a penalty for Conagh to stampede over the line. The two teams were evenly matched and with strong running form George, Oliver B and Frank. AKS continued to threaten the Ripley line. But despite their efforts and strong tackling from Ali and Jerome up front and Nathan and Ben out wide, Ripley managed another try before half time to pull clear 19.5.

In the second half AKS lost Ben early on and were down to 14 men and without his contagious tackling out on the wing Ripley were able to take advantage, scoring a further two tries. A stirring so each from James kick AKS in to gear and they started to pressure the Ripley line once more. The back line pushed the ball right only for Owen to just miss out in the corner.

Moments later with slick passing from Oliver at 9, James pushed the ball wide to Ali who released Owen to dab down in the corner. James also kicked the conversion for out wide. As the game progressed AKS fell foul of Ripley’s extra man, however man of the match Roman at full back, kept the Ripley side from scoring holding them up over the line twice and making 4 try saving tackles. Unfortunately despite his heroic effort, Ripley were able to win the game 43.12.

The Under 15 Spartans enjoyed an emphatic 24- victory on Saturday.  This win was based on very solid scrummaging and a committed approach to tackling, support play and winning nearly all of the challenges. The 2 conversions from Morgan stretched the lead out.  Whilst the whole squad can be congratulated on their performance, special mention must go to Harry, Matthew, try scorers Chris and Toby and a man of the match display and 2 tries by the by the phlegmatic Tristan.

This was a very evenly matched game in the first half, with AKS having the edge in terms of possession. It was an end to end game, but with AKS just losing some momentum in the middle of the second half. This allowed Ripley to steal the initiative with successive scores. AKS came back towards the very end with a fantastic score in the dying minutes from Joe. Despite crossing the line once more, it was not enough to take the win. This was a spirited and committed performance. And with the tenacious attitude of the AKS team, they continue to improve with every match. Notable performances were Daniel and Mark, but Man of the Match goes to Joe for his hatrick of tries.

After a well fought win last weekend at Altrincham the U13 Rugby team had to keep moving forward and develop their skills for what would be a tough match against RST.

A scrappy start from both teams saw a lot of rucking, tackling and scrummaging but AKS soon got their foot in the door when Reece charged through the back line to get AKS on the score sheet, soon followed by looking scoring a suspicious try in the corner.

There were some fantastic individual performances, namely from George G, with a brilliant try saving tackle, he held onto the big outside centre until he pulled him to the ground! Well done to Harvey and Ethan for some brilliant runs and tackling down the wing, stopping numerous tries.

The boys that also got their name on the score sheet were Tom, Luka, Max (first AKS try) and Noah. An outstanding team performance, but the boys need to work on their defensive structure.

The Under 12s won a hard fought match on Saturday by three tries to two. An excellent team performance saw AKS dominate the game with Harvey scoring twice and Oliver scoring once. Player of the match was the tough tackling Stan.”
