Hawks, Saracens & Vandals all at the Woodlands on Sat

It’ll be a great day at the Woodlands on Saturday, 21st Sept., when the Hawks, Sarries and Vandals are all at home, two of them facing ‘Hoppers teams.

The Hawks welcome Preston Grasshoppers 2nds to their home turf in a Premier Division fixture and will compete on the main pitch (ko 15.00).

The Hawks started their 2019-20 season with a narrow 26-17 defeat at Sedgley Park but followed this up with a 12-21 victory at Rossendale 2nds. The Hawks tries were scored by Will Gregory, Will Lockhart and Sam Fisher and all three were converted by skipper David Reed.

Whilst the personnel have still to settle somewhat so early in the season, they have named a strong squad:

15 Sam Fisher; 14 Matt Worsnip, 13 Dan Jones, 12 George Brookes, 11 Will Gregory; 10 Dave Reed (capt), 9 Kyle Macaulay; 1 Zach Barrow, 2 Blake Wilkinson, 3 Jonny Wild, 4 Karl Capstick, 5 Jamie Griffin, 6 Will Atkinson, 7 Tom Steer, 8 James Torkington.

Replacements: 16 Seb Smith, 17 Fraser Stanier, 18 Ryan Evans.

Fylde Saracens entertain Burnage 2nds on the top pitch in a Division One game. They have lost their two opening fixtures so will be very keen to notch a victory. Their line-up, still to be completed, is:

15 Kolinio Nawale; 14 Chris Horsfield, 13 TBC, 12 Karl Etherington, 11 Nathan Heslop; 10 Ben Holmes, 9 Jon Green; 1 George Cook, 2 Rupert Cobain, 3 Tom Fox, 4 Adam Hiles, 5 TBC, 6 Jimmy Lord, 7 Tristan Assad, 8 Richard Appleyard (c).

Replacements: TBC

Fylde Vandals complete the trio of home teams when they face Preston Grasshoppers 4ths on the training pitch. The Vandals, celebrating their 50th anniversary in 2019-20, have won one and lost one Division 4 (North) fixture to date. They won at Clitheroe 2nds by 12-43 but slipped up 24-33 at home to Littleborough 3rds last Saturday.
