Fylde Vandals 0 Leyland Warriors 69
The EPD had mustered a squad of 18 for this one, including a welcome return to action for Ethan Harvey after a couple seasons lay-off with a shoulder injury. He answered the call on Saturday morning after having returned from sunning himself in Tenerife at 04.30 the same day, good man Ethan.
There’s not much to say about the game other than well done Leyland Warriors. The Vandals came up against a well drilled and highly skilled opposition who were a good side last season but now with a more union savvy pack, they are even better.
The Vandals never lay down and defended doggedly but with pace to burn across their backs the Warriors ran in good number of tries. The home side had some moments and probably deserved a try or two themselves but it wasn’t to be and the game finished 69-0 to the visitors.
Thanks to the Warriors for the game, it was played in a great spirit and we enjoyed it no matter the score. Hopefully we can be a bit more competitive come the return fixture later in the season. My thanks again goes to our trusty band of spectators and lastly to the players who worked tirelessly for scant reward.
One last thing to say is that Richard Todd is fine and resting up at home. He took a blow to the head in the second half and was taken off. After the game and an assessment by the doctor, he was subsequently blue lighted up to Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Thankfully he was discharged later although he had sustained whiplash injuries and bruising. All things considered not as serious as it might have been and he assured me this afternoon that he will be ok for next week. Haha, glad to see the sense of humour is still kicking in!!! All the best Toddy, take it easy and hopefully we’ll see you back out there soon.
Next week we are at Leigh RUFC for the league/cup double header and you all know how it ended last year after the equivalent fixture and several more, CUP GLORY!
