Fylde RFC’s preparations are in hand for a number of events to celebrate the Centenary of our formation as a rugby club. The volunteers on the Centenary Group, fronted by Malcolm Phillips, have suggested the following programme, but would welcome any suggestions for events, and, more importantly, volunteers to help with the organisation of the year.
Volunteers and/or suggestions for this momentous year should be notified initially to the Club office, by telephone 01253 732200, or by email to email@example.com.
31st August – Family Club Day
A fun day for all members centred around a First XV pre-season friendly in the afternoon. Kicking off with a Rugby Ramble in the morning – a sponsored walk for Members and friends of all ages starting and finishing at The Woodlands and taking in Lytham Hall. Community rugby will be involved, with family fun activities and food and drink available all day.
8th September – Centenary Start of Season Lunch
The return of an old favourite, this will be a carvery Sunday lunch to open the Centenary season for Members and guests.
October – Centenary Lunch
The Club will officially mark the Centenary with a lunch on a First XV match Saturday nearest to the date the club was formed. The club will provide everyone present with a memento of the day.
November – hopefully the England team will be involved in the latter stages of the World Cup so there will be no Centenary functions.
31 December – New Year’s Eve celebration
To include a family function in the Beaumont Bar and a dinner and celebration in the Woodlands Suite. The Centenary Group would like this to go ahead but need to know how many members would support it to see if it is viable.
January – Legends Dinner
Club Legends from both playing and social side will be invited to recount tales of their club history in an informal gathering to enjoy 100 years of FYLDE RFC. Sir Bill Beaumont will be there! This will be on a match day Saturday evening in late January.
March – Ladies Day
Posh frocks and hats will be the order of the day for a very special Ladies Day with special invitations to ladies who have volunteered for the club in past years.
13 May 2020 – Fylde v Barbarians
Discussions are in hand with the Barbarians to play a fixture against Fylde RFC, in what will be the pinnacle of the Centenary Celebrations. Further details to follow but this Wednesday evening match will be a significant event in the Club’s ongoing history.
May 2020 – End of Season Summer Ball
Live music, dinner and a celebration of the Centenary season, organised by Friends of Fylde, Fylde Ladies on a Friday or Saturday evening.
The Centenary Group are investigating the possibility of using a marquee as an alternative to using the Clubhouse to conclude the celebratory year. This could be used for the Barbarians fixture, the Summer Ball and other events in order to meet the cost of the marquee and associated expenses. We welcome feedback and suggestions from members to see if this is viable
