On Sunday at Lymm RFC, the North of England selectors gathered to put 40 of the very best players from the six Northern counties through their paces in preparation for the U20’s Divisional Festival that is being held on the 11th and 12th May at Derby RFC, where the final squad will play against the three other English Divisional sides.
Many congratulations to all players in the squad, especially former KGS student & Fylde player Matt Ashcroft. Fylde Assistant Coach Dan Orwin said: “We are absolutely delighted that Matt has been selected in the North of England squad. Matt is one of our most talented young players and already has a handful of first team National 2 games under his belt, at prop forward, which is impressive for such a young player. Matt has impressed in his performances for the Hawks in the past two seasons, and has a big future in the game.”
Matt has played alongside his older brother Nick in Fylde’s 1st XV squad this season.
The North’s Chairman of Selectors, Mark Binns, said about the selection process “Yet again we see what a massive pool of talent we have in the North. We had to make some tough decisions but I think we have selected a really good squad.”
