It’s the Hawks v Caldy 2s to whet the appetite

The hors d’oeuvre to Saturday’s National One game sees Fylde Hawks take on Caldy 2nds on the Woodlands top pitch (ko 2.15). Caldy have had an excellent season in the Cotton Traders Premier League, winning eleven of their fixtures, losing only two. They have only slipped up twice, both times against the outstanding Chester 2nds squad who lead the division. They have put all the other teams to the sword. In September, Caldy beat the Hawks by 25-17 at Paton Field and repeated it again at the end of October by 45-7, also in the Wirral. So the Hawks will look forward to meeting them on their own territory to see if they can turn the tables.

They have named a strong squad including a welcome return to action for hooker (and 1st team coach) Alex Loney who badly damaged his Achilles playing for Lancashire against Cheshire in the County Championship at Heywood Road in May. It’s been a long way back to fitness for the Stoneyhurst College teacher.
