Fylde at Blackheath: preview

Fylde travel to old friends and rivals Blackheath at Well Hall on Saturday (ko 15.00). ‘Club’ have had a good season, are in 5th place in National One and will be confident of notching another victory against the Lancastrians. Fylde pressed Blackheath very hard at the Woodlands in November before going down to a narrow 19-26 defeat.

Fylde have earned the bragging rights between the clubs since they returned to National One in 2011, winning seven, losing five and drawing one of the thirteen games. These matches have produced an extraordinary 731 points, with an average 56 points per game.

Blackheath have won 14 matches, drawn 1 and lost 8 to date this season. They have been free scoring, notching 615 points in their 23 games, the 2nd highest in the division. Their leading scorer, Joe Tarrant, who clearly demonstrated his ability at the Woodlands, has 183 points. Joint leading try scorers are fullback/winger Leo Fielding and wing Jake Lloyd with 11, followed by Harry Bate with 9 and Mark Cooke with 7.

Fylde make one change to their starting line-up making the trip. Jake Foster is named on the wing for his first full debut following four games amongst the replacements this season. Matt Garrod, Harlan Corrie and Toby Harrison return to the squad amongst the replacements.
