Following the England Counties U’20s trials this weekend, a squad of 26 has been selected for the summer tour to Georgia. The North squad did particularly well in edging past the London & South East squad by 22-21 and having 11 of their players chosen in the party of 26 to make the trip.
Included in that number are Fylde’s Nick Ashcroft, Tom Carleton and Ben Gregory, along with three other Lancashire U’20s players from the victorious squad which won the Jason Leonard Shield a week ago in the Final at Birmingham Moseley RFC. It’s a repeat of last summer for Ashcroft and Carleton who were part of a very successful Counties tour to Holland, along with team mate Connor Wilkinson (see photo below). Ben Gregory (below) will be making his England debut. The trio’s exposure as regulars in Fylde’s National One campaign will have helped their development despite the disappointing season for the Club.
Congratulations and good luck to Nick, Tom and Ben, and to the rest of the Counties touring party! The Counties are coached by Richie Williams and Paul Arnold.
