News of players who have signed for the Club for the 2019-20 season will be released over the next month. This will include players from last season’s squad who have committed themselves to our campaign in National Two (North) as well as newcomers.
Here’s the first, appropriately the player in the existing squad with the highest number of 1st team appearances for the Club – 216 – Adam Lewis. Additionally, he’s been re-appointed as skipper and will lead the squad during the momentous Centenary season beginning in September. Many congratulations to him on this honour!
Adam, 32, was a mini-junior at the Club and a prominent player at Kirkham Grammar School before making his 1st team debut in the 2006/7 season. He left to join Sedgley Tigers in 2010 before returning to his local club in 2013. The powerful prop forward can play either side of the scrummage
He earned senior representative honours for England Counties in 2014 and has been a regular part of the successful Lancashire squad over recent seasons including leading the squad in their triumphant 2018 cup-winning Twickenham Final victory. Adam played for England U’18s whilst a student at KGS. He has also played representative rugby for Welsh Exiles U’16s & U’18s as well as spending periods in the Leeds & Sale Sharks Academies.
Head Coach Warren Spragg said: “Adam took on the responsibility of captaincy last season as we expected. He is a thoughtful and passionate person who leads the team with pride. He has the respect of the players around him and is helping to develop leadership qualities in other members of the squad with his attitude. I am sure that the responsibility going into the Club’s Centenary year is something that he will be incredibly proud of and I know he will push the lads to perform at their best from day one of pre-season until the final whistle on the last day.”
Adam Lewis said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be asked to captain the 1st XV again this season, particularly in what is to be the historic Centenary year for the Club. On the field, we experienced a lot of success throughout last season and collectively we know we are capable of much more in this coming campaign.
“We have made significant progress in terms of our physical and tactical performances as well as developing our mental toughness as a team. It’s also encouraging to see a wide range of leaders emerging who will secure the future success of the Club and I’m proud to be in a position to lead them all in this coming season. We, as a team, aim to play with the passion and pride that the Club and it’s supporters deserve, particularly in it’s 100th year.”
Adam has been sponsored in recent seasons by The Rivington Brewing Company, a brewery based on a dairy farm in beautiful, rural Lancashire. Inspired by the surroundings and Craft Beer industry, you can follow them on Twitter at @rivingtonbrewco
