Former Fylde Hawk’s player Brett Whitehead has re-joined the Club for the 2018-19 season in a player/coaching role for the Hawks. Brett (26), a former Wigan RL Academy and Wigan St. Patrick’s player, previously played for the Hawks in the 2015-16 and was a key player in the Hawk’s successful league and Cup campaign. Brett featured briefly in the 2016-17 season before agreeing a contract with professional Rugby League club Hunslet (South Leeds), who play in Betfred League 1. Brett also featured recently for the North Wales Crusaders, a professional rugby league club based in Wales.

Brett said: “I’m really excited to be given this opportunity so early in my coaching career at such a great club at Fylde. I am hoping that I can bring something a little bit different to the coaching set-up with my background being predominately rugby league. I’m looking forward to getting started and having a big season with the Hawks and continuing Fylde’s recent tradition of developing young talented players capable of progressing into the first team.”

Fylde coach Dan Orwin said: “Brett is an outstanding addition to the Hawks and to the club. I am looking forward to working with Brett again and I feel that he will have a huge impact both on and off the field. Brett has expressed a keen interest in becoming a coach and I will assist his development in any way that I can. He has achieved a lot in rugby league and his experience will be of benefit to our young squad. Brett is a great personality and I have no doubt that he will go far as a coach.’

Preseason starts for the 1st team and Hawks squads on Tuesday 3rd July at Fylde RFC. New players are always welcome; contact Dan Orwin dorwin@myerscough.ac.uk to register your interest.
