This weekend sees Fylde Vandals travel to Aspull IIs in a league and cup double header. Aspull were promoted from 5 North in second place behind last weekend’s visitors, Bolton 3’s, where they recorded 17 wins from 24 games with 3 draws and 4 losses. The Wigan based side has started well in 4 North securing strong victories against Leigh at home and away at Burnley, seeing them to the top of the table after 2 rounds with 8 points.
The Vandals, positioned in 7th place with a win and a loss look forward to welcoming back captain Ben James into the back row, along with a return to action of number 8 Dave Porter, who made several telling contributions in games towards the end of last season. Following an unfortunate bout of ill health, the pack also hopes to engage the services of influential giant lock, Alistair Atkinson for the first time this term.
Speaking from Vandals HQ, EPD Sean Townsend observed: “This weekend sees us close to full strength in terms of selection options. The team has spoken about putting together a strong cup run this season; many of them seeking to replicate the heights reached under Pete Acton in 16/17. Despite a solid win over Bolton establishing some confidence, the team are preparing for a highly competitive game.”
