FYLDE HAWKS 32 CHESTER RUFC 15
This was a very good performance by Fylde Hawks against a competent Chester 2nds side. The Hawks scrummaging was especially good along with very strong defence and fierce tackling. It’s been very hard work for Hawks Manager Warren Atkinson in assembling a squad this week but his faith in his charges was more than justified by a highly committed display.
This was the Hawks first win out of four in the Conference ‘A’ division. They got off to the best possible start with the top try of day. The Hawks backs moved left and Tom Forster set winger Mulenga Chilufya free. He raced 40m along the touchline and dived over in the corner for an excellent try.
The Hawks forwards faced up to the strong Chester pack and battled incredibly hard throughout. Hooker Blake Wilkinson used his power with the serious help of his pack colleagues to score two mauled tries. The Hawks try scoring fun was concluded following a scrum near the Chester lines when Matt Garrod, playing impressively at no 8, dummied his way over to score to the right of the posts.
David Reed’s kicking was as immaculate as ever and he finished with three conversions and two long distance penalties.
Well done the Hawks!
