1st match of the Season

The Vixens are looking forward to their first game of the 09/10 season which is taking place on Saturday, 19th September.  The team will be welcoming Sutton Bonington Womens Rugby team - from the University of Nottingham to the Woodlands.

The touring side had an extremely good 08/09 season in which they won ten, lost two, and had one game ending in a draw, something the Vixens will be bearing in mind as they pull up their socks and put on their boots.  

The Vixen’s Captain, Victoria Calder ('Jammy') had this to say about forthcoming fixture:-

"The team are really looking forward to this game. It has been a busy time for us recruitment wise and it will be a fantastic opportunity for the new playerss to get some match experience. It will also be the first opportunity to see how the team perform as a whole in light of some of the position changes that have been made.  For this game, one key change in particular will be the one made at fly-half.  The team have been working  hard at training, going that extra mile and attending additional training sessions; so now they’re really keen and looking forward to putting all the theory they’ve learnt into practise’.

The Vixen’s are playing at home after the men’s games on Saturday so its going to be a busy day at the clubhouse.  As such the Vixens would love to have as much support from the home crowd as possible.  For some this will be the chance to see a women’s game for the first time and the Vixens hope to put on a good show for them.

Lancashire County

The Vixens are also extremely happy and proud that four of their teammates have been accepted into the Lancashire County Squad.  Congratulations go to: Victoria Calder (Jammy), Carly Falcon (Hooch), Fiona Grayston (Fi) and Dani Wiseman (Habana). Well done ladies!  

The rest of the Vixens, as ever, are already planning the road trips they will be making so that they can support their fellow team mates and the County team as a whole.  Maps hopefully will be provided!!

Vixens - New Chairperson

Other Vixen news is that the team are delighted to announce that Sarah Hothersall will be taking over the reins as the Vixens’ Chairperson.  Sarah is taking over the role from Alix Foster who said this about her successor:

‘Sarah has kindly offered to accept the role as Chair and I know that she will do a fantastic job for the Vixens. Sarah was previously responsible for organising many of the Vixens’ events and has always shown a huge amount of support and dedication to the Vixens and Fylde RFU.  The Vixens logo itself was designed and painted by Sarah and she has put a lot of hard work into the team since the very beginning.  The Vixens have grown as a team in the last two years and I know they are going to be well represented and looked after with her as their Chair.  

"I would also like to take this opportunity to say a very big 'Thank You' to everyone at Fylde RFU for all the support and assistance that they’ve shown and given to me during my time as Chair, without which the Vixens would not be the team they are today.  The Club have been tremendously supportive and I know that with their continued support and help the Vixens will remain an important part of the Fylde RFU family."
