Successful launch of the Fylde Referees Academy

The launch of the Fylde Referees Academy was well attended by representatives of the RFU, Manchester & District RU Referees' Society, North Lancashire Referees Federation, Miller Homes League, and prospective and active referees.

Will Halford of the RFU Referees Department gave a presentation on the proposed Fylde Referees Academy, outlining areas of potential development in providing a framework, through courses and meetings, for prospective referees, and those with potential for advancement to whatever level they aspire to. Andy Taylorson, currently of the RFU Referees Panel, and former international referee David Leslie delivered helpful tutorials confirming the extent and progress internationally an individual is capable of achieving, subject to personal commitment.

Two workshops developed the theme of the Academy, assisting individuals of any age to achieve progression through qualification, and the Associate Clubs and schools with the centralised provision of referees to compliment the Appointments Secretaries of the attending organisations. John Roper (Fylde RFC Safecare Officer) provded information on the mandatory requirement for CRB certification for clubs and schools referees and coaches.

Finally it was stressed that the courses and meetings the Academy will organise should assist the participants for qualification and be open to any individual of any age who wishes to learn more about the Laws and interpretation. It was also stated that involvement on the course may provide assistance to the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.
