Rossall School 1st XVÂ Â Â 31-5 Â Â Â Â KEQMS
Rossall 1st XV enjoyed a comprehensive 31–5 victory against their local rivals from Lytham on Saturday. The conditions were not ideal for rugby with a very strong wind being prevalent throughout the morning. Rossall started the first half playing into the wind and despite the conditions limiting the usual expansive game played by the Rossall team, they took an early lead through a well worked forward move and the try was scored by James Wilson. KEQMS then discovered that the wind could be utilised to good effect and started to kick the ball deep into the Rossall half and the majority of play for the rest of the half was in the Rossall 22.Â
KEQMS equalised through a well worked move and were clearly buoyed by this. Rossall then demonstrated their defensive qualities for the next 15 minutes as KEQMS continuously posed questions of the Rossall defensive line. The Rossall players stood up to the task admirably and the defensive line held firm. Breaks by Jack Morrison and Luke Williams were caught just short of the KEQMS line and the half time score was a finely balanced 5 points each.
Rossall started the second half in determined fashion; an intelligent kick by James Wilson turned KEQMS around and resulted in a line out deep in the KEQMS 22. Jake Maher was in outstanding form in the line out and secured the ball which set up a driving maul from the Rossall forwards. This resulted in a well worked try on the left edge by Jack Morrison to give Rossall a 10 - 5 lead. Rossall were now dominating both possession and field position. Man of the match William Parker was in outstanding form, making some excellent tackles and stealing the ball from the opposition on several occasions in the ruck. James Wilson scored another well worked forward try which was converted by Jack Morrison, before Luke Williams and Dale Fisher both raced clear to score the best two tries of the game. Jack Morrison converted both of these to give a final score of Rossall 31 KEQMS 5.
