RUFFS Year 7 Competition
Fylde RFC hosted the first round of this season’s Year 7 (under 12) Fylde & Wyre Rugby Union Forum for Schools (RUFFS) competition on Tuesday 2nd March. Ninety-five boys from seven schools participated, for many of them it was their first taste of contact rugby. Baines High School emerged in the strongest position having scored 10 tries and conceding only 2. Carr Hill played some excellent rugby and managed to hold the talented Garstang team to a draw. The teams from Lytham High School and Broughton Enterprise College played with a lot of courage for their first ever tournament. St Aidans improved with every game eventually beating Cardinal Allen on the last play of the afternoon.
The RUFFS is a development league for the regions’ schools. It gives players aged 12-18 a chance to compete regularly and get a taste for the sport. The leagues are run by Rugby Development Officers Gregg Hodgekinson, Alan Holmes and Dave Wilks. All players are signposted to play at their local clubs, Fylde, Fleetwood and Garstang.
