Fylde and Wyre RUFFS League Presentations

In its Third year of running, the school competition has seen another successful year of developing young players in local schools:

·         35 teams took part in the competitions from 13 schools
·         Over 120 games played across 5 age groups
·         Over 550 pupils played
·         458 tries scored

Fylde and Wyre RUFFS were awarded a grant from ‘Awards for All’ to fund the development of the surrounding structures and ensure the sustainability of the league moving in to the future. The allowed us to achieve the following:

·         8 teachers/volunteers on L1 course
·         2 teachers attended a L2 course
·         12 pupils on community leaders award
·         16 pupils teachers and volunteers on RFU Rugby Ready
·         18 pupils aged 16 -18 attended a Referees course
·         20 volunteers used to run the competition
·         Mentoring sessions for teachers and volunteers
·         Supplied all schools with equipment to sustain the development of the sport

The funding has allowed the group to build a sustainable base for the schools league to develop and grow, with appropriately qualified teachers and volunteers in place. This will allow the competition to continue to grow and raise standards over the coming seasons.  Over the past year 626 people have benefited from the RUFFS structure and through the education of teachers and volunteers this number increases significantly when taken back in to school and club environment to additional young people who have not yet taken part in the league.

As well as the Awards for All funding, local businessman Graham Clayton (Claytons the Jewelers) continues to support the schools league by providing the competition prizes.  A special thank you must go to Graham for this sponsorship.

Thanks must also go to the schools and teachers, as well as the RFU in particular Greg Hodgkinson, have all worked very hard to ensure the League has grown and flourish. Additional thanks to Fylde, Fleetwood and Garstang Rugby Clubs for their support to the league and our schools for creating an outlet for players in their area and growing the sport across the region.
