Woodhouse Grove 1st XV v KGS 1st XV
KGS 36Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 5
KGS 1ST XV travelled to Yorkshire on Saturday to play Woodhouse Grove. Often KGS have struggled against a well organised and aggressive Bradford side.
In excellent playing conditions, KGS forwards dominated from the start and controlled the opposition. Captain and No. 8 Jonathan Edwards led by example and was well supported by the front row of James Hesketh, Will Stover and Kieran Brookes.
The forward platform allowed half-backs Kieran Marmion and Daniel Bibby to dictate play and put people into gaps. Tries came from Jonathan Edwards (2), James Hesketh, Daniel Bibby and Will Morecombe. This was KGS’s best performance of the season and hopefully more improvement will follow. Full back Callum Bennett kicked eleven points.
Woodhouse Grove 2nd XV v KGS 2nd XV
KGS 12Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 12
Woodhouse dominated the first half due to their aggressiveness and willingness to
scrap for the ball in loose play. KGS had lots of possession and territory but lost control at vital moments. Lapses in concentration allowed Woodhouse to score two tries and gain a 12-0 lead.
In the second half KGS started to dominate and began to control the ball much more effectively. Possession and territory came frequently to KGS and KGS fought back well to level the scores with tries by Spencer and Watson. Both teams had the opportunity to win with penalties, but both kicks missed leaving the result a draw.    Â
Woodhouse Grove 3rd XV v KGS U16s
KGS 10 Â Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 3
The squad that arrived at Woodhouse Grove on paper looked rather depleted with players missing due to illness and injury. However the self belief within the team was evident from the outset, with the team scoring after one minute through a well worked try by Philip Brooke.
On a small pitch with a big opposition, it was clear that the defence of the KGS side would have to be solid and that it was. With all of the back row, wingers (substitutes included) and fullback being particularly influential, it was only a matter of time before the opposition became tired. With some excellent out of hand kicking by Josh Keay and some excellent place kicking by Ben Jones, KGS carried to put pressure on the opposition both on the field and on the scoreboard. With Jordan Nelson, Bobby Garlington and Alex Lo causing numerous Woodhouse Grove errors in the second half, it was pleasing to see KGS complete another match without conceding a try. This is a performance that the players should be incredibly proud of being part of. Well done.
Woodhouse Grove U15 v KGS U15
KGS 27Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 12
The U15s started well against a well organised team despite the hot weather. The first half saw KGS scoring two well worked team tries. However the second half was a different story. Woodhouse came back with a try within the first five minutes, and the score remained until the last ten minutes. Sam Hall scored an excellent individual try and Tom Hurst profited from superb defence of the backs. Woodhouse Grove U15B v KGS U15B
KGS 12Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 29
This was the first match of the season for the B team and it started badly with two simple tries in the first ten minutes from the visitors. The KGS defence was not moving up quickly and this was exploited by a fast centre. However, in the second half the KGS forwards began to dominate and two tries were scored by the Captain Rhys Williams and Daniel Gregg, one conversation by Fraser Burnie. They continued to show great commitment but the hot weather took its toll. They did show potential and with more organisation and better fitness levels will improve on this performance.
Woodhouse Grove U14A v KGS U14A
KGS 51 Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 0
A convincing but hard earned victory. The first half was a little slow and too many mistakes by the KGS backs prevented continuity. However the second half saw the KGS forwards dominate the game with a positive and purposeful approach to the game. Excellent performances by Marcus Mollinga, Matthew Beatty and Ryan Wilkinson. Tries: Ryan Wilkinson (3), Ben Rhodes-Powers (2), Callum Wilkinson (1), Andy Collinge (1) and Scott Rudd (1)
Woodhouse Grove U14B v KGS U14B
KGS 17Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 29
The U14B team started well on their first game of the season racing into a 17-0 lead. Two good tries by scrum half Fuentes-Moreno and a drive over by Ben Coplestone laid foundations for a victory. However after half time, energy levels dropped and Woodhouse backs played exceptionally scoring several tries, although poor tackling by the KGS boys was also evident. A disappointing result after the early promise, clearly showing that fitness levels need to be improved as well as basic tackling and rucking.
Woodhouse Grove U13A v KGS U13A
KGS 0Â Â Â Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 50
KGS came up against a powerful Woodhouse Grove side who are currently unbeaten and are Yorkshire Champions. Woodhouse began crisply and KGS found the pace difficult to cope with. KGS did their best to stem the flow of tries but the away always found a way through the KGS defence. At half-time the score was 32-0 so at least the second half effort showed some improvement. Thomas Hunter was the pick of the KGS forwards.
Woodhouse Grove U13B v KGS U13B
KGS 0Â Â Â Â Â Â Woodhouse Grove 56
An extremely strong B team overpowered KGS, playing their first game of the season,
from the outset. The opposition were superior in pace, strength, organisation and physical presence. The second half saw a more determined effort from KGS and whilst only threatening the tryline on two occasions at least managed to gain some possession and compete better.
