KIRKHAM GRAMMAR SCHOOL
Kirkham Grammar School opened their campaign in the new Western Schools Super League with a fixture against Colston's Collegiate from Bristol, probably England's top rugby school over the last 15 years. On a wet and windy afternoon KGS took control from the start and were well lead by captain and no.8 David Egelstaff and were able to disrupt and force Colston's into a number of mistakes. After taking the lead with an early penalty from scrum half Charlie Swarbrick, winger Sam Hall increased the lead after he intercepted a Colston's pass and sprinted 70 metres for the first try of the game.
The KGS pack with hooker Josh Woods in rampaging form continually drove Colston's back. Taking advantage of the wind and conditions KGS scored again when David Egelstaff was driven over after some very solid forward play. Soon afterwards KGS increased their lead when winger Sam Hall somehow managed to avoid numerous defenders after countering a loose kick giving KGS a 17-0 lead. Decisively KGS scored again just before half time when David Egelstaff finished off some excellent forward play with his second try of the game, and converted by Charlie Swarbrick. Although Colston's tried desperately to fight in the second half with a wind advantage ,they were contained to only 8 points, as again Kirkham's pack dominated the game.
Final score Kirkham Grammar School 25 Colston's 8.
