The Under 16’s Floodlit Cup run ended abruptly on Wednesday with the team falling to a strong Manchester side. The first points were conceded in the first minute after a KGS error and fortunately this ignited the team into playing a forward orientated game and through powerful drives by George Naylor, Matthew Ellis and Alex Lo, the team started to control both possession and territory. Unfortunately this could be turned into points and just before half time a penalty kick was conceded.
The second half started with KGS dominating and it was unfortunate that after drives from Ryan Morton and Josh Keay, Anish Chandreskar was held up over the Manchester try line. Ben Jones, Bobby Garlington and Philip Brook were fierce in defence and with the team having to chase the game, a misdirected pass and kick led to two late tries which sealed the fate of the team. Even though the team were extremely disappointed, they must now look forward to a county cup semi final against Lancaster GS after half term.
