KIRKHAM GRAMMAR SCHOOL RUGBY RESULTS V AUDENSHAW SCHOOL
SATURDAY 12 DECEMBER 2009
1st XV
Won 43-5
KGS 1st XV played their third game in a week, but ran out comfortable winners 43-5 against an awkward Audenshaw side who competed well. Despite playing without a number of players due to Ireland training, North Trials and illness KGS maintained their recent improvement. Centre and vice-captain Sean Condon was in the middle of all the action and it was he who opened the scoring with a fine individual try. Audenshaw tried very hard to disrupt KGS's momentum, however, reserve hooker Edward Gill showed good finishing speed with a try after good work from both backs and forwards. Strong running prop Chad Banfield claimed his first try of the season after fellow prop Jon Evans had skillfully put him into space. After half time KGS forwards totally dominated, whilst the backs sliced open Audenshaw's defence and put winger Juandre Nell in for an easy try. Young lock Matthew Ellis forced his way over after a strong catch and drive from the KGS pack and then good interlinking between backs and forwards allowed full back Callum Bennett to be put away for another try. Late on with KGS a constant threat hooker Edward Gill helped himself to a second try. KGS 1st XV ended an excellent term's rugby and are looking forward to the challenges after Christmas including a new fixture against strong Stourbridge School, Old Swinford Hospital on 9 January at Ribby Road.
2nd XV
Won 54-5
Despite the score line this was a scrappy, bad tempered affair. Audenshaw proved tenacious in defence whilst KGS had a day to forget, despite one or two impressive breakaway tries. The team were disappointed with this performance that slipped into too many trying for individual glory. The younger players acquitted themselves well but there were too many others who did not fulfill their potential in a game that could have brought an excellent team performance.
U15A XV
Won 26-5
The U15's were lucky enough to play on Audenshaw's new pitch on Saturday and "hat a difference the surface made". KGS had a great start with plenty of possession; it was only a matter of time. Luke Woodward and Matt Beaty both crossed the line in the first half, taking advantage of a strong performance from the forwards. Not to be out done Ben Rhodes-Power scored two brilliant individual tries from some slick backs' moves.  Special mention must go to Robert Lockhart and Sam Fuentes-Moreno for their tremendous performance.
U14A XV
Won 43-0
A thoroughly professional and comprehensive performance. Both the forwards and backs played their part. Audenshaw were a little overwhelmed by the speed the forwards recycled ruck ball.
Navid Sultan and Tom Morris had excellent games in the front row. Will Lockhart and Rob Lavelle played very well as scrum half and stand-off respectively.
James Penrose and Harry Mason worked hard in the back row creating a lot of opportunities for the back to run the ball. Lewis Leech and Tom Hunter excelled in the backs.
Tries: Lewis Leech (2), Will Lockhart (2), J Chan (1), J Penrose (1), T Hunter (1)
4 conversions Will Lockhart
U13A XV
Won 41-10
KGS rounded off a busy term with a comfortable victory over Audenshaw utilizing the whole of the squad in preparation for their forthcoming Tour of South Wales. Indeed KGS started brightly opening the scoring through Alex Whalley after excellent driving play from the forwards. Robert Thomas, who threatened throughout, went over for a second score soon after to get KGS going. The first half saw KGS dominate possession but some poor handling meant that opportunities were missed. However two more tries were scored before the break by Oscar Twitchett and Captain Connor Wilkinson. The second half did not go all KGS's way with Audenshaw rallying to score two tries, but KGS with a man extra extended their advantage with tries from Sisson, Griggs and a second for Wilkinson, Henry Cameron adding three conversions. The KGS pack scrummaged well and won large amounts of possession in the loose allowing the backs plenty of ball with Cameron making several forays into the Audenshaw half.
U12A XV
Won 68-0
Another glorious day, another display of free flowing rugby. Todd Roper scored an excellent individual try in the opening minutes and that was the start of a stream of tries from nine different players. In this one sided game players were able to swap positions with forwards moving to the backs and vice versa.
U12B XV
Won 27-5
A strong side played against quite a physical Audenshaw line-up on Saturday. To Begin with the shape of the team did look a little slack and we did not support our runners and were not convincing in the rucks. This shaky start meant that the opening exchanges were pretty equal. However, once the side got warmed up some excellent driving runs from Nick Coleman and Jack Campbell allowed us to play the game in the opposition's half. Tries from Nick Coleman, Matthew Guthrie, Elliot Turnock and Sachin Nantheesan soon made the game safe. However, towards the end of the game Audenshaw did rally a little and all credit to Michael Lewthwaite and Benedict Le Saint for some strong tackling to keep the opposition at bay. This was a good game of rugby and a fitting result at the end of a good term's play and progression.
