KIRKHAM GRAMMAR SCHOOL RUGBY RESULTS - SATURDAY 4 SEPTEMBER 2010
1st XV
Crossley Heath 10 KGS 41
Kirkham Grammar School 1st XV started the season with a convincing 41-10 win at Crossley Heath School in Halifax. New captain David Eglestaff lead by example and crossed the game line a number of times which gave the backline to attack from deep. The KGS forwards always held the upper hand and allowed half backs Michael Simmonds and Charlie Swarbrick to dominate play. After a fine run by full back Stanley Graham, KGS opened the scoring with a Chris Kohler try. KGS continued to press and soon young centre Tom Hurst made a good break which he finished himself. Throughout the game KGS linked backs and forwards with strong running. Hooker Josh Woods causing many problems for the Crossley Heath defence, this allowed winger Sam Hall to capitalise with a fine hat-trick. Finally hooker Woods gained his reward with the final try of the game. Scum half Charlie Swarbrick contributed 11 points with the boot. KGS now look forward to the visit of top rugby school Colston's Collegiate next weekend to their Ribby Road ground.

2nd XV
Crossley Heath 12 KGS 36
On a tricky pitch, the 2nd XV took some time to get into this match and even though they dominated in terms of territory, soon found themselves 12-0 down. However some excellent running from Matthew Beaty, Patrick Callery and Luke Woodward led to Sam Hargreaves responding with a penalty. An excellent passage of play led to a number of phases being put together and this was completed by an excellent try by Ryan Wilkinson in the corner. Sam Hargreaves converted.
In the second half KGS dominated throughout and with Jack Smith and Harrison Moulding causing the opposition problems behind the scrum and Jack Ingham around the contact area, it was little surprise that more tries were scored. Joseph Wareing scored a powerful try after Jordan Nelson had turnover, the Crossley Heath attacker and Ben Swift completed a flowing move to score the try of the second half. An excellent start to the season.
