Six Shooter Radley in amazing form

Six Shooter Radley in amazing form!

There were some fine performances on the rugby fields on Saturday with a string of very good individual displays.

None more so than the one by U14 forward, Matthew Radley, who enjoyed a memorable morning after scoring a stunning six tries! The U14A won convincingly by 45-5, playing some extremely impressive rugby. Richard Whiteside was the other try scorer but Mitchell Bolus, Declan Humphries and Jacob Grimshaw can all be very pleased with their efforts in a near perfect team performance.

The U13A match at Liverpool College was also a Lancashire Cup match and our U13s made it two wins in eight days after snatching a late, late win to progress into the next round. Liverpool led 13-10 going into the final minutes of the match.  Rory Humphries and Oliver Greenwood-Taziker tries had kept Arnold in the match and the backline continues to improve with Alex Vowles-Bradley and Tom Forster impressive throughout. However, with time ticking away speedy full back, Sean Jagger, crossed for a very good try to claim a 15-13 win.

The U15A won their seventh match of the season in a very tight and committed affair. They made a marvellous start with a try in the first few minutes. Louis Mottley made a break and then superb handling by Tom Hammond, Andrew Walkden and Joe Roscoe sent a diving Nathan Thompson in the corner for a 5-0 lead. This was doubled just a few minutes later as another flowing move ended with Louis Mottley scoring. Liverpool came back well to dominate the last ten minutes of the second half and their big and strong forwards were the platform for two quick tries as the half ended 10-10.

A superb Joe Roscoe kick right into the corner helped to start the second half very well and Arnold dominated the early possession. Once again, a good platform was set by the Arnold forwards and the dangerous home backline made yet another break. This time Tom Hammond made the break and he released Louis Mottley down the left and the superb Mottley drew the last two defenders to send Thompson in for his second of the day. A further penalty gave Arnold an 18-10 lead but Liverpool fought back once again with a stunning try in the corner an a brilliant touchline conversion made it 18-17 with six minutes to play. However, Arnold had the presence through Andrew Walkden to kick the territory for the remaining minutes and a late penalty secured a bruising 21-17 victory.

Sadly, injuries and unavailabilities made life for the U12A and 1st XV very, very tough. The U12A lost by 26-10 but Mr Hayden was very impressed by his side's performance despite so many boys missing and even more playing out of position. Sam Royle was superb for the full match and he was rewarded with a brace of tries and Rory Douglas and Matthew Barrat worked hard throughout.

The 1st XV lost out by 12-8 but all of the boys can feel very proud of the way that they played. Missing their North of England quartet who have trials in Leeds on Sunday and three other players did not help matters but the 2nd XV Spartans who stepped up did not disappoint with Ashley Harrison, Tom Wright, Nathan Bolus and Tom Jepson all playing particularly well. In fact, it was Arnold who struck first through Joe Blanthorn to take a 5-0 lead but the dangerous Liverpool backline just proved too good and two tries helped the home side grab a narrow victory.
