Arnold School reports, 26th September
Saturday saw all of our teams take on the formidable Stonyhurst College. The 1st XV lost their unbeaten start to the season as they went down narrowly 13-0 away from home. Two early Stonyhurst penalties and then a second half try was all that separated the sides and despite some good possession Arnold could not find a way through. Josh Beaumont was again superb but he was lost to a late injury. The 2nd XV put in a very brave performance but lost out 26-0. Kevin Wan and Joel Dodd played well and Joe Blanthorn, as usual, led the side brilliantly.
The U16A produced a stunning display in a fantastic match which ended in a 12-12 tie. Arnold took the lead through a Jacob Reid try but Stonyhurst fought back to lead 7-5 at half time. Tom Jepson put Arnold back in front but a late try salvaged a draw for the Stonyhurst boys.
In the U14A match, Arnold led 15-12 with only ten minutes to go after flawless kicking from Alex Naylor and a brace of tries from Ben Cheston. Sadly, Stonyhurst fought back and the Arnold boys just tired out at the end to lose a topsy turvy match, 26-15.
In the U13A match Andrew Perry, Alex Vowles-Bradley and Will Nickson played extremely well but some late Stonyhurst tries gave the home side a 22-5 win. Vowles-Bradley scored the Arnold try.
The U15A will play Stonyhurst in the 3rd round of the Daily Mail Cup on Tuesday 29th September. The match is at home and kicks-off at 5pm.
