Arnold School 1st XV v Hutton - video highlights of all this week's rugby
The 1st XV won a thrilling Daily Mail Vase match against Hutton GS with Sam Crowther's touchline kicking differentiating between two very equal and competitive teams.
Arnold took the lead as Ben Perkins darted through a gap from close range and, with Crowther's conversion, the home side led 7-0. Hutton hit back in convincing style and two tries midway through the first half put them 10-7 ahead. Towards the end of the first half, centre Harry McNulty scored the 1st XV's second try and, once again, Crowther was successful with his conversion for a 14-10 advantage.
Hutton began to exert some territorial dominance as the second half progressed and they scored two good tries for a 20-14 lead. However, Arnold fought back and, with about 8 minutes remaining, Perkins burst through a gap from 40 metres out. He had the speed and power to dive over in the corner for a try to trail by 19-20. It was then Crowther's turn to display his nerves of steel as he sent his conversion from the touchline over for a 21-20 lead. Hutton threw everything at Arnold in the last few minutes but the home defence held firm to move into the next round.
