Buccaneers triumph at first North Lancs Super 7s

The final round of the North Lancashire Super Sevens series took place at Fylde RFC on Friday 3rd August. Well over 250 spectators watched some excellent sevens culminating in Raymond James Buccaneers beating Steel Habitat in the final game to clinch the tournament and the series. Over the tournament 125 players have enjoyed the events and with the music and festival atmosphere it is certainly a project that has potential for future growth.

Organiser Mark Nelson said " The series, a joint venture between the Lancashire Development Centres and the RFU, has given an opportunity for players to try the sevens game and teams have developed really well. I was particularly pleased to see Waterloo Colts who, though up against it, really enjoyed the series and the players will have gained an enormous amount of experience from being involved. The clubs involved are keen to repeat the event in the future and I am sure that it will grow."

Led by Fylde's Oli Brennand, the RJB squad beat Waterloo 61-0, Fylde Hawks by 57-5 and Steel Habitat by 52-10.

In the game between the Buccaneers and Steel Habitat, there were four England Counties players (Brennand, Sam Beaumont, Olly Viney & Mike Waywell) plus a Scottish rugby league international (Alex Hurst) on the pitch.

It was good to see the very talented Harrison Collins back at the Woodlands and he played his part in an excellent team effort.

The Hawks were unlucky not to beat Steel Habitat in a close game after being 4 tries to 1 up at one stage. Charles Hough distinguished himself for the Hawks.

The young Waterloo squad worked very hard and never gave up.

Thanks to all the players who took part and to Mark Nelson for organising the tournaments.
