Everyone associated with Fylde RFC is delighted at the news that the Club's President, Bob Barclay, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for 'services to young people & sports in the Fylde' in today's Queen's Birthday Honours List. Bob has spent a lifetime at the Club - as a junior, senior, 1st teamer, Chairman of Rugby, Club Chairman and, for the past two seasons, as President.
But perhaps his biggest contribution has been as a coach to the thousands of youngsters who have passed through the various teams that he has been involved with across several generations. He has been an inspiration to these young people and has been a missionary for attractive and winning rugby. But most of all, he has instilled a sense of true rugby ethos and sportsmanship at the heart of our great game.
Bob has been supported immensely by his wife Janice, and his three rugby playing sons - Nick, former skipper Ian & Stephen - have also been integral to Club affairs over the years.
Club Chairman Andy Hiles said: "We're all so pleased for Bob. Not only has he done so much for the Club in the past, especially with his years of coaching young players, but he's a tremendous ambassador for Fylde as President. I congratulate him and his family on behalf of everyone at the Club and his many friends and acquaintances in English rugby. It couldn't be more deserved."
