Fylde U'11s v Wigan, 19th February: report & photos
Fylde U'11s 30* – 7 Wigan U'11s
In an exciting start to the game, Fylde’s Alex Clayton combined well with Sam Hackett who ran in to score a try in the first minute. However, Fylde were caught napping and a lack of tackling allowed Wigan to respond immediately with a try of their own.
After 7 minutes, Fylde stole a Wigan line out ball deep in the Wigan half, and Sam Hackett drove over for his second try. Powerful drives from the forwards and a darting run from Chris Linton, twice saw Fylde over the try line in the corner, but each time the players were bundled into touch. From a following line out, Harvey Moore finally drove over for a try. A run from Alex Clayton and drive from Harvey Moore resulted in a fourth try. The half time score: Fylde 28 – 7 Wigan all tries converted by Alex Clayton.
The second half began with more open rugby from both sides. Covering tackles halted a good Wigan attack before a run from Chris Linton allowed Ben Kear to drive over for another Fylde try. In their best rugby of the game, Fylde then began passing the ball out to the backs quicker and Nathan Heslop was able to run in 2 further tries (all 2nd half tries converted by Nathan Wood).
A rusty start from a squad who haven’t played much rugby recently, but some exciting rugby towards the end.
