This was the third encounter between these two sides already this season, and having lost on both previous occasions, Fylde were hoping to cause an upset when welcoming Chester's second string to The Woodlands.

The Wanderers were able to call on the vast National League experienced trio of Pete Altham, Martin Wallwork and Steve Collins as they were being rested from first team action, and welcomed back Joe Brockbank, captain Danny Beaumont, Alex Redfern and Ryan Tweed from injury absences. Once again Fylde can boast further additions to the squad, as UCLan second row Harry Avant entered the fray.
